LSCM Logistics Summit 2024

The annual LSCM Logistics Summit concluded successfully on 10 October 2024 with more than 1,000 guests from the government, industry and academia joining the event on-site and industry practitioners from different regions in the Mainland joining online to explore the recent technology advancement that have been fostering the smart city development and driving the growth of digital economy under the theme of "From Smart City to Digital Economy".

The highlight of the Summit was the Signing Ceremonies of the Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) among LSCM and renowned Mainland institutions for closer collaboration in technology R&D to foster Smart City development and cross-border logistics. The MoU signing among LSCM, Guangzhou Institute of Software and CAS Smart City (Guangzhou) Information Industry Co., Ltd., signified the collaboration among the three organisations in enhancing research capabilities, as well as the support and services for digital infrastructure development. LSCM also signed MoUs with CEC Joint Innovation Research Institute to collaborate on the evaluation and testing of the security and sustainability of technology and systems; and with Sinotrans South China Container Logistics Co., Ltd. with an aim to collaborate on the technology development for cross-border logistics. To strengthen the closer collaboration with the Geater Bay Area (GBA), there was a co-hosted session named "Digitalisaton in the Greater Bay Area" with the Guangzhou Institute of Software and CAS Smart City (Guangzhou) Information Industry Co., Ltd. at the Summit to facilitate technology adoption, enhance digitalisation and promote collaboration among Hong Kong and other cities in the GBA. Apart from the insightful presentations by distinguished speakers from diverse sectors, there was also a technology exhibition at the Summit. This year, LSCM showcased various robotics and logistics technologies, such as the Smart Robotics Coordination System for Hospital Logistics, Electronic Power Assist Trolley System, e-Smart Port Platform, Cross-boundary Blockchain for Pharmaceutical Logistics Information Management and Digital Supply Chain Logistics Management Platform for Cell & Gene Therapy Product Manufacturing, etc. In addition, there was a special Mainland China Pavilion this year in which LSCM's partner organisations from the Mainland were invited to showcase their latest technologies.

The Summit not only facilitated the exchange of views and ideas among the tech community and the logistics industry, but also promoted technology development and adoption in various industries.

Prof Dong SUN, JP, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, The Government of the HKSAR, gave the Opening Remarks at the Summit and emphasised that LSCM is an active partner in the Government’s Smart City development plan. LSCM, Guangzhou Institute of Software and CAS Smart City (Guangzhou) Information Industry Co., Ltd., signed a MoU for the collaboration among the three organisations in enhancing research capabilities, as well as the support and services for digital infrastructure development.

The Summit provided an exceptional platform for the representatives from different sectors to obtain updates about the latest technology advancement and explore collaboration opportunities.


LSCM Maritime Summit 2024

LSCM, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), hosted the LSCM Maritime Summit at the Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC) on 19 November 2024. With the theme of "Fostering Logistics Industry Prosperity: Innovating with Data-Driven Empowerment and Smart Platform Construction", the discussion at the Summit delved into the transformative power of data-driven strategies and smart platform implementation in the logistics industry. In view of the challenges ahead in the rapidly changing business environment, it is crucial for businesses to embrace technology to enhance efficiency and productivity.

During the Summit, LSCM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PayCargo and Autotoll to strengthen the collaboration among the three parties on the development of Smart Port Community technologies (the "e-Smart Port Platform"). LSCM also signed another MoU with Tradelink to mark the collaboration on the development of technologies for cross-boundary trade and logistics. The signing of the MoUs signified that LSCM and the key industry players are ready to support the development of the e-Smart Port Platform hand-in-hand.

Additionally, LSCM showcased the latest logistics technologies developed by the Centre at the exhibition at ALMAC, including the award-winning Electronic Power Assist Trolley System, e-Smart Port Platform and Follow-me Robot, etc. Media representatives from overseas and the Mainland, as well as the industry practitioners, were excited to explore these innovative technologies at LSCM's booth which would enhance the industry efficiency and productivity.

Miss Amy CHAN, JP, Deputy Secretary for Transport and Logistics, The Government of the HKSAR, delivered the Opening Remarks and exchanged views and ideas with the industry practitioners at the Summit. Hon Frankie YICK Chi-ming, GBS, JP, Legislative Councillor, The Government of the HKSAR, examined how the Port Community System would facilitate collaborative logistics in Hong Kong.
Mr Simon WONG, MH, FCILT, Chief Executive Officer, LSCM, emphasised the importance of developing the Port Community System to strengthen Hong Kong’s sea, land and air logistics activities in his Welcome Remarks at the Summit. Media representatives from overseas and the Mainland were interested in learning about the technologies developed by LSCM at the exhibition.

LSCM received various awards at the 4th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions Hong Kong

The 4th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions Hong Kong, organised by the Hong Kong Exporters’ Association (HKEA) and Palexpo, Geneva, was held on 5 - 6 December 2024. LSCM’s effort in technology R&D has again received significant recognition at the exhibition.

The project that received the gold award was the AI in Assisting Crop Pest and Disease Control whilst  the Intrusion Detected Continuous Re-authentication (IDCRA) Technology received the silver award. The other two award-winning technologies were the e-Smart Port Platform and XRCC - Extended Reality Content Creation Suite, a collaborative project between LSCM and The University of Hong Kong which enables users to create professional-level interactive VR/XR experiences easily.

The LSCM team is thrilled to have received the acclamation in recognition of its commitment to the development of innovative technologies for enhancing the industry efficiency and the quality of life of the community.
