Vision-based Badminton Match Analysis System

With its expertise and years of experience in technology R&D, LSCM has been developing a wide range of innovative technology to foster the development of different sectors. To support the sports development in Hong Kong, LSCM developed the Vision-based Badminton Match Analysis System in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Sports Institute to facilitate data-driven badminton competition video analysis by providing detailed hit-by-hit technical statistics, analysis of players’ tactics and strategies, and detailed evaluations of athlete’s performance and conditions.

This efficient automated video analysis tool for badminton matches is essential for capturing the latest strategised dynamics of all potential opponents in a tournament. The system helps to save the time and effort required in the current practice of manually collecting limited end-of-play technical statistics from videos of badminton matches. The analysis provided by the Vision-based Badminton Match Analysis System will support the Hong Kong coaching team and elite badminton athletes to devise the most appropriate game strategy for each of the upcoming matches in the tournaments. This technology is expected to provide further support to Hong Kong’s athletes and sports development in the regional and international arena.

e-Publishing Platform

LSCM has been dedicated to the research and development of innovative technologies to assist different industries in enhancing efficiency and productivity. One of the signature technology projects, the e-Publishing Platform, has been developed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Publishing Federation Limited (HKPFL) to cater to the needs of the publishing industry.

The e-Publishing Platform is a self-service platform for translation and audio production using AI technology. Materials can be pre-translated for final human proof reading, while keeping the typesetting and formatting similar to the original version to minimise the re-typesetting tasks. The platform helps to shorten the time to produce translated e-books and audio books as it can also take text to generate audio for audio book production, drastically shortening the time compared to human recording. It therefore enhances the efficiency and productivity of the publishing industry.  HKPFL has made available the platform to its member publishers, fostering the digital transformation of the industry.

The e-Publishing Platform received a Silver Medal in the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva earlier this year.
