The LSCM R&D Centre has joined hands with the research team from the Faculty of Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and developed a “Real-time Environmental Monitoring and Sensing System” for a successful trial run of monitoring and protecting the exhibits at Hong Kong Museum of History and the storage in Hong Kong Film Archive.
Leveraging on a special exhibition of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: "Western Scientific Instruments of the Qing Court" staged at Hong Kong Science Museum from 26 June to 23 September 2015, in which the same technologies have also been deployed to monitor treasurable antique exhibits from the Palace Museum for enhancing facility management, a publicity programme has been tailored to promote this cutting-edge technologies to the public.
A total of 11 media have attended the media tour organised by the LSCM R&D Centre on 6 August, including South China Morning Post, TVB, Oriental Daily and Sing Tao Daily, etc. The event was kicked off by welcome remarks by the LSCM R&D Centre’s Chief Executive Office, Mr Simon Wong. Prof CH Cheng from the Chinese University of Hong Kong introduced the technology application, followed by speeches delivered by Mr Jonathan Tse, Assistant Curator, Conservation Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and Ms Paulina Chan, Curator, Hong Kong Science Museum, LCSD sharing their user experience. A guided tour around the exhibition area was arranged for the media to explore how the technologies work through hands-on experience.
