Delegation from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Port and Shipping Administration Bureau

 

The LSCM R&D Centre received a delegation visit from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Port and Shipping Administration Bureau on 19 June. The visitors were introduced with the Centre’s latest R&D deliverables and projects related to port and shipping development. They also showed lots of interest in the advance trucks’ arrival notification system for logistics handling and the construction site safety systems. The guests discussed and shared different points of view actively.

Retail Asia Expo 2015

 

The LSCM R&D Centre joined Retail Asia Expo 2015, an annual trade show and conference that caters to retailers in Asia Pacific. The event was hosted from 9 to 11 June at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, which consisted of three focus areas: Retail Technology, Retail Design & In-Store Marketing and Internet Retailing. Our Centre showcased a collaborative project with Echnoix Inc. (HK), which is about the development and commercialisation of RFID reader chip for product authentication applications. This low-cost and easy-to-use reader is able to read and identify the RFID tag on each tagged product such as wine and luxury goods.

Signing Ceremony of MOU with Hong Kong Police College

 

The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was held on 13 May at Police Headquarters. This MOU marks a new partnership between the LSCM R&D Centre and Hong Kong Police College. It is agreed to launch a comprehensive cooperation in research and development of learning technologies with application of virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI), in an effort to enhance overall training quality, minimise training cost and also to enable measureable result.

Meeting of INTERPOL in Lyon

 

From 5-7 May, the 26th meeting of the INTERPOL standing committee on disaster victim identification was hosted at Lyon, France which three parties were invited: the LSCM R&D Centre, Disaster Victim Identification Unit (DVIU) of Hong Kong Police Force and Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI). On behalf of the LSCM R&D Centre, Mr Martin Lai, Senior Manager, Technology Support presented how Un-manned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) can be used as site survey and terrain mapping so that the commander can get hold of the scene situation before deployment of search team, find out staff location in real time and make virtual gridding become possible. Moreover, Mr Stephen Wai, Senior Manager, Business Development, shared about how reading the RFID tags of body parts and groups of objects can replace the physical stock checking by comparing information generated in the database.

IoT Symposium 2015

 

The "Internet of Things (IoT) Symposium 2015” is an annual event organised by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation under International IT Fest 2015, which was held at Hong Kong Science Park on 16 April.

The Chief Executive Officer of LSCM R&D Centre, Mr Simon Wong, was invited to be the panel chair for the panel discussion of “Spearheading Hong Kong as a Regional IoT Application Hub”. During the afternoon session, the LSCM R&D Centre and Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) chaired one of the parallel tracks. Our Centre had invited two speakers including Prof Chen Wu from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Prof Qu Hua Min from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to deliver talks about our collaboration projects.

We had showcased two RFID related technologies including an RFID reader chip for wine authentication, and an RFID guiding cane that provides audible information of direction to the people with visually impairment.
