Abstract: | The project is segmented into two parts. The first section concentrates on developing four analytical tools that utilize Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. These tools aim to extract information regarding vessel port visit sequences, occurrences of skipped or added ports, and the evolving spatial features within global shipping operations across different time periods. The subsequent part employs machine learning models to evaluate how shipping variables, which mirror the economic dynamics of the shipping sector, influence changes in freight rates and to scrutinize the effects of geopolitical factors. The deliverables aim to enhance understanding of shipping operations, predict freight rates, and provide valuable insights into the influence of geopolitical events on the shipping industry. |
