Project Title: | Blockchain-Based Platform for Beverage Container Recycling with Advanced Privacy Features |
Hosting Institution: | LSCM R&D Centre (LSCM) |
Abstract: | The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has implemented the Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) on glass beverage containers (GPRS) to hold manufacturers and importers accountable for the environmental impact of their products. As part of the government's waste reduction strategy, Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) charging incentivizes the community to reduce waste and practice clean recycling. In compliance with the PRS for the importers and manufacturers of beverage containers, this project proposes the adoption of blockchain technology. The project, titled "Blockchain-Based Platform for Beverage Container Recycling with Advanced Privacy Features", aims to build a shared blockchain platform for manufacturers and waste container collection and treatment service provider to record beverage container recycling transactions. By leveraging blockchain technology and incorporating zero-knowledge proof, the platform ensures privacy while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of verified records. This allows for the verification of records without disclosing sensitive information, ensures immutable storage of collection records, facilitates reporting on collected and recycled beverage containers, and enables auditable information sharing within the blockchain network. Ultimately, it will contribute to the overall reduction of waste disposal, promote resource conservation, and support the government's environmental protection initiatives. |
