Project Title: | Building A Smart and Safe IoT City to Support Fast Search for Missing People |
Hosting Institution: | The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) |
Abstract: | Many people have been reported missing every year. They include mentally incapacitated persons (MIPs), hikers, cross-country runners, mountaineers, etc. These missing events present great threat to the lives of the missing people, and bring enormous stress and anxiety to the family members. In order to search for these people more efficiently, Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) has been looking for solutions over the past years. Initiated by HKPF, this project is to develop innovative IoT technologies to support fast search and rescue. We will research an develop fast coarse search with LoRa and fine search with BLE. Fast coarse search will be done by drones with LoRa using reinforcement learning while fine search will use mobile crowdsourcing approach with BLE. We will also customize a police app for police mission-critical rescue operation. We collaboratively build a smart and safe IoT city to support fast search and rescue for missing people. |
