Project Title: | Smart Data-Driven Building Management Framework for Environmental and Sustainability Applications |
Hosting Institution: | The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) |
Abstract: | Building energy efficiency is crucial to achieving the targets set up in recent government initiatives and policies in carbon neutrality, climate action plan, and smart city development. It is also an important factor of companies’ Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) reporting. This project aims to develop and demonstrate an innovative smart data-driven framework for building energy management, by developing and deploying AI-empowered data-driven optimization and predictive maintenance strategies, realizing the potential of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for operation management, and developing an AR-enabled informative and interactive human-equipment-information interface. A novel physicsguided machine learning paradigm will be developed for modeling buildings and Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, which makes effective use of both physical knowledge and a large volume of building design and operational data. Multiple organizations have expressed their strong interests in this project by providing cash sponsorship and in-kind support. PolyU Facilities Management Office (FMO) and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) are committed to offering MEP plant rooms and technical support to test and demonstrate the project outcomes. We believe this project will advance the building management technologies, bring 20% energy saving, and facilitate the facility management industry to accomplish transformation in the era of AI and to attract more young manpower to tackle the urgent challenge of the aging workforce. |
