Project Title: | Reconfiguration and Augmentation of Wristband Device for an Environmental Factor Aware Location Tracking of People for Community Services using City-Wide Internet Of Things Network Infrastructures |
Hosting Institution: | LSCM R&D Centre (LSCM) |
Abstract: | According to a population-based study conducted jointly by the Elderly Health Service, Department of Health and the Department of Psychiatry, the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2005-2006, the prevalence of dementia among community elders aged 70 or above was 9.3%. Elders with dementia may become disoriented once they leave their familiar environment. There is difficulty for carers to apply restraints for minimizing the chance of getting lost. Furthermore, restraint can cause further cognitive decline which may lead to greater confusion and agitation. In order to minimize the problems of elders getting lost, this project will develop smart wristband which will augment the current BLE wristband for considering an environmental factor aware location tracking of people for community services using IoT network infrastructures. The smart wristband will be designed to support remote control and standalone application as well as minimizing power consumption and reducing Wi-Fi geolocation subscription cost. |
