Project Title: | The Future Warehouse of Hong Kong |
Hosting Institution: | LSCM R&D Centre (LSCM) |
Abstract: | Logistic & Storage industry is one of the pillar industries in Hong Kong, but their business keeps declining. Labour shortage and high rental cost are some of their major challenges. Advanced unmanned warehouse and automatic guided vehicle (AGV) technologies may remedy the problems, but they are still expensive nowadays and it is difficult to deploy a fully unmanned warehouse in Hong Kong due to the limited warehouse space. This project aims to research and develop robotic technologies for local future warehouses. Both AGV and human-collaborative mobile robots tailored for local warehouses will be prototyped. We will also develop a future warehouse system equipping with semi-/fully- automatic, mechatronic/robotic and hybrid solutions tailored for Hong Kong warehouses settings. The developed technologies can improve productivity and enhances cost effectiveness. Although the project deliverables are targeted for local warehouse applications, they can be turned into applications for different industries easily. For example, the human following technologies can be used to transport bulky and heavy items in construction sites. |
