Project Title: | Smart IoT Infrastructure & Technologies and Big Data Analytics for Community Services |
Hosting Institution: | LSCM R&D Centre (LSCM) |
Abstract: | The world is aging rapidly and Hong Kong is no exception. There are currently about 1.12 million people aged 65 or above in Hong Kong. This figure will rise to 2.28 million in 2034 and further to 2.58 million in 2064. However, despite a longer lifespan, many elderly people are living with chronic illnesses, creating a huge demand for community services. On the other hand, manpower shortage is a key problem to the community services industry. Long working hours and low salary have resulted in a high turnover rate of experienced frontline workers and reduced number of people entering the industry. Thus, the industry is facing increasing difficulty to keep pace with the mass demand for their services. With this project, we propose to develop the IoT networking and systems infrastructure for community services centers, which supports the very needed functionality for 1.) asset management efficiency, 2.) anti-wandering attendance to the elderly and 3.) the big data analytics for operation improvement. In the project, we will also carry out pilot implementation of systems for application with the biggest elderly care NGO, namely the TWGHs, as to prove the usability in the localized and demanding requirements of the HK’s elderly care facilities. |
