Project Title: | Ultra-Wideband Radar Technology for Non-Destructive Object Scanning |
Hosting Institution: | LSCM R&D Centre (LSCM) |
Abstract: | It is common for small-/medium-sized local factories and warehouses to perform goods packaging manually. Some SMEs will carry out quality control, such as weighing the final product packages and comparing them with the well-packed counterpart, to identify potential mis-packed goods. Weighing method may identify missing parts but not be able to detect wrong parts with same weight as the correct ones. This project aims to study the feasibility of using ultra-wideband radar technology to develop a non-destructive object scanning prototype. By correlating changes of different radar output waveforms, it is possible to identify non-standard scanned objects for screening purpose. This solution will provide a low-cost non-destructive alternative for local SMEs in different operating environments such as logistics warehouses. For instance, the quality control unit may use this prototype to compare the testing package with the standard reference package in order to identify any potential abnormal package for further re-checking. The potential of this proposed technology can be integrated to become a multi-sensing scanning solution for various industrial adoptions. |
